Designing Clay Liners for Animal Waste Storage Ponds

This course shows how compaction and soil additives are used to construct clay liners for reducing seepage from animal waste storage structures designed by NRCS. Subject areas include soil compaction, field and laboratory permeability tests, seepage estimation, conservation practice standards, and geology. NRCS references include Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook Chapter 7 and Appendix 10D.

Designing With Geosynthetics for Ag Waste Containment

This training is primarily for field engineers and civil engineering technicians who have design and installation responsibilities for agricultural waste containment systems. The course covers the design, materials, and construction considerations that go into the successful selection and installation of a flexible membrane, geosynthetic containment system. Introductory topic will concentrate on the evaluation of site considerations that lead to the selection of an appropriate liner system using Appendix 10D of Chapter 10 of the Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook. The course is presented by lecture, discussion, and demonstration.
